Jamie

I stare at my computer screen feeling confused. First off, the new girl’s video wasn’t working so I couldn’t even get a look at her. Second, I’m not sure if we’re going to get along. I hope we do. I’m pretty easy going. I didn’t even start a fuss when Sarah was stealing my commissions.

But this new girl is different. I’m not sure if it’s in a good way or bad way yet. She’s familiar, too. The verdict is still out on whether I like her or not. She seemed nice enough, but something felt a little off, maybe. She was genuinely excited about me training her tomorrow on our system. But as quick as she’d say something nice to me, she’d talk over me and answer questions for me. Some weren’t even right. I try to give her the benefit of the doubt.

She might just be eager to prove herself. She’s new. I totally get that, if that’s what she was doing. I really shouldn't judge. I have my own quirks. She also could’ve gotten confused since we’re both named Jamie. I’d done a double take myself a few times when the new boss said my name but was speaking to her. Oh my God, Jamie, stop nitpicking the poor girl. I really need to quit listening to all these crime podcasts. I’m becoming suspicious of everyone.

I close my laptop when I hear my phone ding and snatch it off the coffee table. I see a text from a number I don’t know and more calls from Trevor's parents. I have nothing else I can tell them. I click the text instead, having no intention of calling Trevor’s parents back. I’m not going back down that road again.

Unknown: Jamie here!

Holy crap! That was fast. I gave her my number so we could set up a time that works best for both of us to do the training tomorrow. She really is eager. I save her number to my phone. I don’t know why I feel so unsettled. Maybe it’s because of all of the earlier excitement with Silas.

Me: Hey back at you! I’m pretty open tomorrow, so let me know what works best for you.

Jamie 2.0: Awesome. Did I see a stack of Aphrodite Jones books on your bookshelf?

I turn to look towards my bookshelf. How the hell did she see that? Is that even in camera view? I thought her video capability wasn’t working? I push down my normally suspicious nature and decide I need to try to be friendly. She’s making an effort, and she’s new. She’s probably nervous and looking for something we can connect on. That’s all.

I think everything that’s been happening around me has me on high alert.

Me: Yep. Love her stuff.

Jamie 2.0: Me too! We are so much alike it’s almost creepy. LOL!

I’m glad I’m not the only one thinking that.

Me: You’re my doppelganger!

Jamie 2.0: ;)

Winky face, hm? The more I think about it, it’s kind of funny. I drop my phone onto the sofa to change into something before Silas gets back with our dinner.
